Brett is a consultant with Sonic Lawyers.
Brett practices digital, media & technology law leading initiatives for some of the world’s leading brands. He holds fast to the idea that a lawyer’s role is to help the business grow faster, sustainably, with fewer mistakes.
Working in legal roles in both the UK and Australia over the past 20 years, Brett’s signature strength is his ability to think and act like a businessperson, while knowing the law. This ability has earned him the trust of major corporates and start-ups alike.
Some examples include representing Musiio in its sale to Soundcloud, Mable, Woolies X, Commonwealth Bank of Australia & Qantas Loyalty also TotallyMoney, Mitsubishi UFJ Securities, Electronic Arts, SEGA & BMG Music Publishing in England. He has also represented artists and songwriters including Montaigne and Matt Redman.
He is a mentor at the Australian Institute of Music’s iHUB music tech incubator and contributed to the MODA DAO white paper for how the music industry might advance alongside blockchain ventures. Brett is also on the Penrith Visual & Performing Arts Board that looks after the legendary Q Theatre, The Joan, Penrith Conservatorium of Music and the Penrith Regional Gallery. Brett supports the arts and was a founding trustee of the National Youth Arts Trust in England that provides bursaries for under-privileged youth to participate in the arts.
His early career was spent with Baker & McKenzie (Sydney & London) and Deacons (Sydney – now Norton Rose Fulbright). He is dual qualified as a solicitor in England and New South Wales and holds the Certified International Privacy Professional European qualification (CIPP/E).
He once tried to open a restaurant, worked in radio and in his spare time teaches himself guitar, so progress is slow.
